First Baltic 'crossing'

As the forecast predicted that the wind would decrease in the afternoon, we left Laboe just before 2pm. It was a relatively easy trip to Schleimünde, just under 20 miles in 4 Bft wind, with initially a bit of a choppy sea coming over the bow (resulting that the boat is 'as salty as a herring' now). At Schleimünde you enter (obviously) the Schlei, a fjord rather than a river.

The scenery along the Schlei is quite pretty. These people have it nicely organised: a nice house with a mooring for their yacht:

About 4 miles into the Schlei lies the town of Kappeln, where we are now tied up. Why Kappeln, you may well ask. Well (apart from the fact that it is quite a nice place), in Kappeln you have the shop of Praetorius, which specialises in selling low cost alcoholic beverages to yachts going to Denmark and (especially) Sweden and Norway because of the high prices of alcohol there. So like everyone else, we'll visit Praetorius tomorrow and stock up.

After that, we may well go to the tiny and remote harbour at Schleimünde (it is - again obviously - right where the Schlei enters the Baltic). It is in a nature reserve and is apparently quite idyllic. If the forecast is correct it will be a nice calm evening with good weather the next day to continue to Sønderborg (obviously in Denmark with that 'ø') and beyond.
