Cleaning and shopping

We have had a busy day and decided to be practical and stay in Kappeln rather than move the 4 miles to Schleimünde.

We started the morning by giving the boat a good clean outside. All the salt is gone (although one wave will put it all back....). There was also a lot of accumulated dirt and Onbekommerd looks bright and shiny again!

Then we went shopping, first for eel as that is a local product here. In fact the 'eel-smokery' is a few minutes walk from the boat.

Next came the visit to Praetorius (see previous post). Fortunately you are allowed to take your shopping trolley to the boat (deposit €2).

Yes, we have to admit that is boxed wine. Unfortunately, it is not possible to store 3 boxes (36 bottles) on board so we have boxes and decant into bottles (the white going into the fridge) as and when required. You also see 3 cases of beer and 18 * 1.5l of sparkling water. The savings on deposits there are €24: you are exempt from paying the €0.25 deposit per can / bottle if you take them outside Germany where you cannot get the deposit back. You do however have to make a declaration which includes the promise to dispose of the packaging responsibly. In Denmark this means sticking it into a machine which checks if you are owed a deposit (if it is bought in Denmark) and then gobbles the can or bottle up in exchange of a voucher for the amount owed.

We also have a nesting 'bird on a mooring pole' again. This one seems quite unperturbed by the goings on around her (in contrast to the one in Wilhelmshaven which was quite frantic). We hope to be able to report a happy occasion again tomorrow.

The plan is to leave early tomorrow for Sønderborg, get there around noon and sort out the 3G cards for the iPads, which will make comms a great deal easier. Then move on to Dyvig, the 'smukkigste bugt' (prettiest bay) in Denmark. We were there last year and it is indeed very nice there!
