Schiermonnikoog

We have been so lucky with the weather the last few days!
Yesterday, still on Ameland, we did a good 12 KM walk through dunes and forest. Today we did the 21 mile trip to Schiermonnikoog in again perfect conditions. As one of the boats in our flotilla has a draught of 1.2m (vs 1m for Onbekommerd and the other Valk vlets), we had to be a bit more careful with the planning. The first shallow comes quite early out of Ameland and the last one is in the Schiermonnikoog harbour entrance and there are two more in between. Anyway, everything went according to plan, sometimes with just centimetres of water under the keel. Once on Schiermonnikoog, the friendly harbour master gave us nice berths. We had a communal barbecue (with the Cobb of course) and lots of chatting with a beautiful view over the Wad which was almost dry at low tide.

The harbour has not been dredged for two years due to lack of funds, so now we fall dry at low tide:

And of course the channel to the harbour also almost runs dry. We saw a spoonbill and a heron walking in the middle of the channel, looking for food. Unfortunately by then the light had faded too much, but this is what the channel looks like:

To end off, a nice sunset:

We'll stay here for at least two nights. We really enjoy "Schier"!
