Amsterdam

We did the 22 mile stretch from Alkmaar to Amsterdam today, stopping at our favourite boat shop, Dekker Watersport in Zaandam. To us (OK, to me anyway) it's a 'kid in a candy store' experience. Our main purchase was a 'Cobb', a barbecue (braai for South African readers) which is especially suited for use on board (but interestingly hails from South Africa).

Here it is:

Of course it is not used standing on a cushion ;-), but one feature is that the outside remains cool when in use. We look forward to using it and will post our experiences complete with pictures.

After the stop at Dekker, we continued to the Sixhaven in Amsterdam. This harbour is only a short ferry ride away from the Amsterdam city centre. As always it's packed with boats and there is a very special atmosphere here. We'll post a picture tomorrow.
The plan is to stay two or three days, we want to visit the reconstructed Rijksmuseum and also the Scheepvaartmuseum. And we need to go to Datema, the nautical chart and -book supplier (another 'candy store' experience....).

We'll report back tomorrow, with some pictures.
