These three are of the Danish Royal Yacht that we encountered in the Kiel canal. We don't know if the queen was on board, there was a nice flag with a crown on it in the aft mast, but probably not 'Royal' enough for the Queen herself!
The moment the (big) lock door opens, you can see the Baltic and 'you have arrived'. The water is very clear and blue after the brown canal water. In this instance, the big lock was operated just for us 'sportboote', about 10 or so. Normally you have to share with the big ships, which can be intimidating but is actually not bad at all.
In locks like these, where you have to get out onto the floating 'platforms' we always wear our life jackets. In addition, I have to climb up the ladder onto the lock wall to go to the office to pay the canal dues. Not a bad deal: €12 for the whole experience, including the two locks!
We are still in Laboe, the weather is pretty grim, a bit of rain and a lot of wind. But we are very comfortable and are getting a bit of work done too! It looks like we'll move on on Thursday. Probably no blogpost tomorrow!
